W.E. Hill & Sons, London, c.1895 “no. 57″

The workshop of W.E. Hill & Sons was the center of the violin world for much of the early 20th century, and this violin serves, in both craft and sound, as a reminder of the talent at work there during that time.

Led by the Frenchman Charles Langonet, the Hill workshop produced exceptional instruments that exhibited precise workmanship and lustrous varnish based on a few Stradivari models, including the “Tuscan” violin of 1690 after which this violin is patterned.
