Robert Brewer Young began his career as a luthier working as an apprentice to Brice Dupin de Saint Cyr at his atelier in New York’s Carnegie Hall. After five years training as a restorer and maker, having worked on and closely studied numerous instruments by Stradivari, Guarneri, Guadagnini, and other classical Italian makers, Young founded his own thriving atelier in lower Manhattan. After 12 years making instruments there, Young moved with his family to a small village in the French Pyrenees where he devotes himself exclusively to the research and creation of fine concert instruments.
Young’s cellos have been particularly successful due to their superb craftsmanship combined with a sound that is refined yet full of body and depth.
