Paul Serdet was an accomplished French maker whose work stands proudly next to his Parisian peers during the late golden age of French violin making.
After studying with Gaillard and Derazey, Serdet went to Lyon to work for H.C. Sylvestre for 17 years before finally establishing his own workshop in Paris in 1894. He was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1900.
This violin, modeled after Stradivari, shows precise and well-executed workmanship with a strong, focused sound. It is covered with a striking deep-red varnish.
