Johannes Cuypers, the Hague, c.1780 – 1/2 size violin

Johannes Cuypers was the leading Dutch violin maker of the 18th century. A prolific craftsman, he made violins that were inspired by Antonio Stradivari rather than the models of Amati and Stainer that were favored by his Dutch contemporaries.

Cuypers violins are well known for their robust Italian-style sound and beautiful, distinctive workmanship. This particular violin, at only half size, still offers that same robust sound, perfect for a prodigious young soloist looking to sing out above the orchestra.
