Gaetano Sgarabotto, Milan, 1911

Gaetano Sgarabotto was one of the leading Italian makers of the early 20th century. Alongside Giuseppe Ornati, Ferdinando Garimberti, and others, he worked at the Leandro Bisiach shop in Milan. Sgarabotto was one of the most versatile makers of his generation as he was adept at making precise and clean “modern” instruments as well as very clever antiqued copies of old Italian instruments.

This viola, of somewhat larger proportions, offers a rich, powerful yet mature sound which will effortlessly accommodate the most demanding performer.
