Like Jean Baptiste Vuillaume in Paris, Francois Caussin presided over an instrument-making shop during the middle part of the 19th century. Caussin’s shop was located in Neufchateau, near the Swiss border, and produced a wide range of instruments, from student quality on up.
The cello we are offering dates from 1830 and is one of the best we have seen. Like Vuillaume’s cellos, it was built on the most important Stradivari “forma B” model and has a similar antiquing pattern in the varnish. This cello is in pure condition and boasts a large and responsive sound suitable for cellists of the first rank.
