Appraisals
Carriage House Violins offers an appraisal service for instruments and bows that are submitted for our examination. Insurance coverage is the most common purpose for an appraisal. The assessed value is a “replacement value” or the cost at which the instrument could be replaced, with something similar, within a limited time period. This service is available when we are in agreement with the established attribution.
Appointments are required, and a minimum of one hour is needed for examining your instrument or bow for appraisal.
The cost (per item) of an Appraisal is as follows:
| Appraisal Type | Fee |
|---|---|
| Verbal instrument or bow appraisal | $50 |
| Bow insurance appraisal | $60 |
| Appraisal update | $60 |
| Instrument insurance appraisal, valued under $1,999 | $70 |
| Instrument insurance appraisal, valued $2,000 to $9,999 | $90 |
| Instrument insurance appraisal, valued over $10,000 | $125 |
In addition, we offer fair market value appraisals for $250.
We also offer appraisals for estate, legal and probate purposes at higher fees.
We also offer verbal opinions if you wish to know the origin or value of your instrument for other purposes.
As well, we are pleased to offer a preliminary opinion, if good quality photographs of the instrument or bow are submitted. We request high resolution photographs of the full front and back, as well as a side photo of the scroll. Photographs should be taken straight-on, not at an angle, and emailed to info@carriagehouseviolins.com .
